Using Vinyl Floor Graphics

If you’re looking to spruce up your business, try looking down! Many marketers don’t realize the floor is a giant canvas of untapped potential. Floor graphics in vinyl are a great way to add personality and color to your space while on a budget.

Benefits of Using Vinyl Floor Graphics

Business owners need to think outside the box when it comes to marketing. Grab the attention of every customer who enters your door with a hard-to-miss graphic. Vinyl floor signage has many benefits that will help you promote your brand.

If you’re on a tight budget, vinyl floor graphics are a great affordable marketing technique. Easy to apply and remove, you can use them for limited-time discounts, sales, and promotions without damaging the floor.

With floor graphics, you’re not bound to the usual space restrictions of signs or posters. Take advantage of this space-saving technique with a variety of custom graphics. You can also encourage social distancing practices between your customers without obstructing walkways or merchandise.

How to Use Floor Graphics Strategically

Floor graphics are most effective when noticeable, easy to read, and in high-traffic areas. Placing them near the checkout line will attract the attention of idle customers and influence impulse buyers.

Don’t be afraid to think big. With the floor as your canvas, you have the freedom to create a sizable graphic. It probably will be the first thing your customers see when they enter your business. Your floor signage should be striking and attention-grabbing. It’s also an opportunity to showcase your company’s identity. Utilize colors, fonts, and images to establish a memorable introduction to your brand.

Custom floor graphics can be versatile. Some decal ideas include:

  • Brand logo
  • Motto
  • Core values
  • Interesting facts
  • Achievements
  • New products
  • Sales
  • Welcome signage
  • Directing customers

Help customers navigate your business with clear directions right under their feet. It will aid your foot traffic and move your patrons to your products faster, increasing your sales.

How to Apply Vinyl Floor Graphics

To protect your vinyl from peeling or deteriorating, apply it to a smooth, even surface free of cracks or holes. To avoid premature peeling, floor graphics should be placed at least half an inch from grout lines and edges.

To apply a vinyl floor graphic:

  1. Start by cleaning and degreasing the area thoroughly. Refrain from waxing the area for at least 24 hours before application.
  2. Dry the area with a clean cloth or paper towel.
  3. Prepare the vinyl floor graphic by flipping it upside down and gently peeling the plastic backing off about an inch.
  4. Arrange the graphic exactly where you want it. Apply the top inch of the graphic to the floor carefully. Tape down the top part of the graphic to the floor using a piece of masking tape.
  5. Press down firmly on the top of the graphic.
  6. Begin slowly peeling the backing off the graphic as you apply it to the floor, one small section at a time. It can be helpful to cut off the plastic backing to keep it out of the way.
  7. Use a squeegee or other flat tool to press down the graphic as you go and remove any air bubbles. Start from the top and go outward.
  8. Continue the method until the application is finished. Remove the masking tape when completed.

How to Care for Floor Graphics

When preserving the longevity of your vinyl floor graphics, ensure you apply them to the proper flooring, such as wood, concrete, asphalt, tile, vinyl, or any other nonporous surface.

Consider the natural wear and tear that will occur over time. While places with heavy foot traffic will attract more attention, they will also deteriorate faster. The best compromise is to avoid applying it in places where wet shoes might frequently walk.

To get the longest life out of your floor graphic in vinyl:

  • Keep it clean and dry
  • Use mild soap and water to wipe it down gently
  • Dry it thoroughly with a soft cloth

If water is left puddled on the graphic, it could prematurely damage it.

Don’t use a harsh cleaner. Don’t buff it unless the graphic is thoroughly protected with a wax coating. Refrain from dragging heavy equipment, machinery, or furniture over the graphic.

How Long Does Floor Vinyl Last?

The durability of your vinyl floor graphics differs depending on the environment. Outdoor graphics exposed to the elements will deteriorate faster. They generally last about three months.

Indoor graphics typically last about six months to a year before you need to replace them. If you experience quicker wear and tear, consider changing the location of the graphic in the future or increasing upkeep maintenance.
